Social Bridges with James Wines

December 12, 2023 — Steven Chavez teams with one of the world’s most influential and distinguished artist architects, James Wines of SITE-James Wines. Mr. Wines and Steven Chavez are working together to develop a module for urban waterway crossings. The objective is to transform urban waterway bridges from single purpose crossings into multi-purpose social destinations.

Vectorworks Design Scholarship

November 17, 2023 — Steven Chavez was among eight landscape architect judges that reviewed landscape architecture student submissions for the 2023 Vectorworks Design Scholarship competition. The scholarship included two awardees with an award going to an international student and an award going to a US student. 2022 CLARB Annual Meeting

September 23, 2022 — As the National Association of Minority Landscape Architects (NAMLA) Founder and Executive Director, Steven Chavez took part in a panel discussion at the 2022 CLARB Annual Meeting titled Partnering for Collective Action. The panel included leaders from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB), the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) and the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB).

CELA 2022 Annual Conference

January 6, 2022 — Corresponding author Steven Chavez and second author M. Elen Deming’s abstract submission Social Bridges: Transforming Urban Waterway Crossings into Social Destinations is accepted for poster presentation and publication in the conference abstract proceedings of the 2022 Annual Conference of the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture.

September 24, 2020 — The National Association of Minority Landscape Architects (NAMLA), a public charity organization founded by Steven Chavez, is granted 501(c)(3) status by the United States Internal Revenue Service.

June 3, 2020 — Steven Chavez was granted full admission to the Doctor of Design Program in the College of Design at North Carolina State University.

September 27, 2018 — Steven Chavez begins teaching in the Landscape Architecture Program at UCLA Extension.
